چکیده
Natural kamacite samples (Fe92.5Ni7.5) from a fragment of the Gibeon meteorite were studied as proxy material for terrestrial cores to examine phase transition kinetics under shock compression range different pressures up 140 GPa. In situ time-resolved X-ray diffraction (XRD) data collected body-centered cubic (bcc) section that transforms high-pressure hexagonal close-packed (hcp) with sub-nanosecond temporal resolution. The coarse-grained crystal rapidly transformed highly oriented crystallites hcp at maximum compression. persisted long 9.5 ns following release. Comparing c/a ratio previous static and dynamic work on Fe Fe-rich Fe-Ni alloys, it was found some shots exhibit larger than ideal ratio, nearly 1.65. This represents first laser structural study natural iron meteorite, relevant understanding properties metallic planetary bodies during impact events Earth’s core elasticity.

Structure of sodium above 100 GPa by single-crystal x-ray diffraction.
At pressures above a megabar (100 GPa), sodium crystallizes in a number of complex crystal structures with unusually low melting temperatures, reaching as low as 300 K at 118 GPa. We have utilized this unique behavior at extreme pressures to grow a single crystal of sodium at 108 GPa, and have investigated the complex crystal structure at this pressure using high-intensity x-rays from the new D...
متن کاملDirect observation of the alpha-epsilon transition in shock-compressed iron via nanosecond x-ray diffraction.
In situ x-ray diffraction studies of iron under shock conditions confirm unambiguously a phase change from the bcc (alpha) to hcp (epsilon) structure. Previous identification of this transition in shock-loaded iron has been inferred from the correlation between shock-wave-profile analyses and static high-pressure x-ray measurements. This correlation is intrinsically limited because dynamic load...
متن کاملUltrafast X-ray Diffraction Theory
Time-resolved X-ray diffraction patterns can be inverted to obtain photoinduced dynamics without resorting to additional and often unknown information (e.g., potential energy surfaces), as required in optical probe experiments. In order to interpret ultrafast X-ray diffraction measurements, we consider several time scales in X-ray experiments involving elastic versus inelastic scattering, quant...
متن کاملMelting of iron determined by X-ray absorption spectroscopy to 100 GPa.
Temperature, thermal history, and dynamics of Earth rely critically on the knowledge of the melting temperature of iron at the pressure conditions of the inner core boundary (ICB) where the geotherm crosses the melting curve. The literature on this subject is overwhelming, and no consensus has been reached, with a very large disagreement of the order of 2,000 K for the ICB temperature. Here we ...
متن کاملDetection of breast cancer using non-invasive X-ray diffraction technique of hair: A preliminary study
Background: An early diagnosis of breast cancer relates directly to an accurate treatment plan and strategy. Early detection of breast cancer before its development would be a significant reduction of morbidity and mortality rates. The aim of this preliminary study is to investigate the sensitivity of Wide Angle X-ray diffraction (WAXRD) method on women hair samples of healthy and breast cancer...
